Big Apple Workshop Weekend

Join us for a fun and challenging weekend of learning the iconic solo jazz routine, The Big Apple. Originally performed by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in 1939 and choreographed by Lindy Hop great Frankie Manning, The Big Apple is an energetic solo jazz dance performed by thousands of Lindy Hoppers all over the world today. Check out a more modern clip here.
Come for Part A Saturday, Part B Sunday or come both days to get the full choreography.

Dates: Saturday 2/15/20 10am-Noon (Part A) and Sunday 2/16/20 Noon-3pm (Part B)
Location: Maine Ballroom Dance, 614 Congress Street Portland
Cost: $25 per day or $40 for both days
If you took our Big Apple workshop last year, you can join us for 50% off ($20).

Prerequisite: Knowledge of solo jazz basics are helpful, but all levels are invited to attend. For folks who aren't familiar with common solo jazz moves, we'll offer a simplified version in the workshop but we'll keep things moving for more advanced dancers. (See below for helpful resources to brush up on a few of the more challenging steps.)

Bring: A water bottle and comfortable clothes you can sweat in.

Optional Solo Jazz Homework: If you'd like to brush up on three of the more complex solo jazz steps in the Big Apple, here are good explanations of Apple Jacks, Suzie Q's and Shorty George.

Registration: Pre-registration is required (below) so we know class size in advance - thank you!

See you February 15th and 16th!
