Big Apple Workshop Weekend
w/ Bethany Powell and Stefan Durham
Join Stefan and Bethany for a fun and challenging weekend of learning the iconic solo jazz routine, The Big Apple. Originally performed by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in 1939 and choreographed by Lindy Hop great Frankie Manning, The Big Apple is an energetic solo jazz dance performed by thousands of Lindy Hoppers all over the world today. Check out a more modern clip here.
Come for Part A Saturday, Part B Sunday, or come both days to get the full choreography.
Please note:
We have more people than anticipated for Part B on Sunday, so we're moving Sunday's workshop to a larger venue.
We'll be back at the East End School Sunday in the Gym (just down the hall from the cafeteria).
Dates: Saturday 4/1/23 1-3pm (Part A) and Sunday 4/2/23 1-4pm (Part B)
(Save the date for social dancing Saturday evening 4/1 7:30-9pm at Urban Farm Fermentory
w/ music from The Ragtime Destroyers)
Locations: Saturday 4/1 - East End Community School Cafeteria, 195 North St. Portland
(plenty of free parking in front of school and in school lot)

(See below for helpful resources to brush up on a few of the more challenging steps.)
Bring: A water bottle and comfortable clothes you can sweat in.
Optional Solo Jazz Homework: If you'd like to brush up on three of the more complex solo jazz steps in the Big Apple, here are good explanations of Apple Jacks, Suzie Q's and Shorty George.
